What you need before you start

Step-by-step — your first swap

1

Install Phantom wallet

Go to phantom.app and install the browser extension or mobile app. Create a new wallet and securely save your seed phrase. Send SOL from an exchange to your Phantom wallet address to fund it.

2

Go to raydium.io and click "Swap"

Navigate to the official Raydium site. Click "Swap" in the navigation menu to open the swap interface.

3

Connect your Phantom wallet

Click "Connect Wallet" in the top right. Select Phantom from the list. Approve the connection in the Phantom popup. Your SOL balance will appear on screen.

4

Select your tokens and amount

Choose the token you want to swap from (e.g. SOL) and the token you want to receive. Enter the amount. Pay close attention to price impact for newer or low-liquidity tokens — high price impact means you're getting a worse rate.

5

Adjust slippage if needed

Click the settings icon to adjust slippage tolerance. For major tokens like SOL/USDC, the default 0.5% is fine. For newer tokens, you may need 1–5%.

6

Confirm the swap

Click "Swap" then confirm the transaction details. Approve in Phantom. Your transaction will confirm on Solana in under a second in most cases. New tokens appear in your Phantom wallet immediately.

💡 Solana requires a small "rent" reserve of SOL to create token accounts for new assets. When you first receive a new SPL token, Raydium will ask you to pay a one-time account creation fee of around 0.002 SOL (fractions of a cent).
